Boy, 12, arrested on grand theft auto charge

Police say boy crashed into motor scooter, fled scene

MIAMI – A 12-year-old boy was arrested on a charge of grand theft auto Wednesday.

Police said a red Pontiac Grand Am ran into a motor scooter at the intersection of Southwest Fourth Avenue and Sixth Street about 4:30 p.m.

The driver of the Grand Am left the car at the scene of the crash and fled on foot, police said.

An officer in the area of Northwest Ninth Avenue and Third Street saw the 12-year-old boy, who fit the description of the hit-and-run driver, and detained him.

The 12-year-old was arrested on grand theft auto charges and cited for leaving the scene of the crash.
