Boy, 4, found safe in Lauderhill

Uncle takes Malachi Lovelace to school, which was closed for Thanksgiving holiday

LAUDERHILL, Fla. ā€“ A 4-year-old boy who was reported missing in Lauderhill after being dropped off at school has been found safe.

Lauderhill police said the uncle of Malachi Lovelace dropped the boy off at school Wednesday morning, unaware that the school was closed for the Thanksgiving holiday.

When the boy's mother woke up and realized there were no classes, she and the uncle rushed to school but couldn't find him.

Police said Malachi was last seen in the 1900 block of Northwest 56th Avenue.

Sky 10 was above the scene as police used bloodhounds to sniff for the boy's scent. Police could be seen talking to the boy before placing him in the front seat of an unmarked car and driving him home.

According to officers, a friend of the family spotted the boy and took him to her mother's house nearby where the woman was also watching her child. Police said the woman let the children outside to play and a Sunrise police officer who was assisting with the search spotted Malachi.

Police believe the incident was an honest mistake and said no charges will be filed.
