Boy riding scooter struck by vehicle in Lauderdale Lakes

Boy, older brother attempted to cross street when incident happened

LAUDERDALE LAKES, Fla. – A 9-year-old boy riding a scooter was taken to the hospital after being struck by a vehicle, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.

It happened around 8 p.m. Thursday in the 3100 block of Northwest 41st Street in Lauderdale Lakes.

Deputies said the 9-year-old boy and his brother were crossing 41st Street from south to north.

The older brother, who was walking, made it across the street OK. Deputies said the 9-year-old boy, who was riding a scooter, was struck by a vehicle in the westbound lanes.

Broward Sheriff's Fire Rescue took the boy to Broward General Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, deputies said.

The driver remained at the scene, according to BSO.

Traffic homicide detectives are investigating the incident.
