Police say boys admitted to skipping school, pointing guns at cars

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. – Police said two boys were briefly detained after reports that they were pointing realistic-looking BB guns at traffic.

Boynton Beach police spokeswoman Stephanie Slater wrote in an email that officers were called to the area Monday after a 911 call.

Slater said the boys, ages 10 and 11, tossed the guns on the ground but were immediately detained. She said they admitted to skipping school and pointing the guns at cars.

Slater's email said officers explained in great detail just how dangerous the situation was and how badly it could have ended.

The boys were later released to the custody of their parents.

A police report said both parents promised the "necessary measures will be taken to prevent any further disturbances."
