BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. – A Boynton Beach police officer was arrested Thursday, accused of raping a woman at gunpoint.
Officer Stephen Maiorino is charged with armed sexual battery, kidnapping and unlawful compensation or reward for official behavior.
Boynton Beach Police Chief Jeffrey Katz said there is probable cause to believe that Maiorino raped a 20-year-old passenger in his patrol car Oct. 15.
According to the police report, Maiorino was driving the woman back to the Boynton Beach Police Department to be picked up by family after her friend had been arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, leaving her stranded.

When they arrived, Maiorino "grabbed her wrist and told her to perform oral sex on him to avoid being arrested herself, even though she had done nothing wrong," the report said.
Maiorino then drove her to a secluded area where he raped her at gunpoint while wearing a condom, the report said. He then threatened to kill her if she told anyone before dropping her off at the police station, the report said.

The woman reported the alleged incident the next morning and helped police find the abandoned field where she claimed the rape occurred.
A used condom, condom wrapper and tampon the woman said Maiorino forced her to remove were found in the field, police said. Her DNA was found on the condom, condom wrapper and Maiorino's underwear, police said.
The woman told police Maiorino raped her on the hood of the car from behind while his left hand held onto his unholstered gun.
Katz called the arrest "a dark day in the history of our department."
Maiorino has been employed with the Boynton Beach Police Department since May 2006.
Katz said Maiorino has been on paid administrative leave since the day of the alleged incident. He said Maiorino will be fired.
