Brother, sister shot, killed in Pompano Beach

Detectives investigate possible murder-suicide involving siblings

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – A brother and sister are dead in an apparent murder-suicide in Pompano Beach.

It happened at a home in the 2600 block of Northeast 21st Street.

Broward Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Dani Moschella said a woman came to visit a friend at the home about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. When she stepped outside to make a phone call to her husband, she heard gunshots from inside the home. The woman ran for cover and called 911.

Moschella said the SWAT team arrived and entered the home, finding a man and a woman dead from apparent gunshot wounds.

Early Thursday morning, deputies identified the deceased as Mandy Lytell, 28, of Fort Lauderdale, and Joseph Lytell, 24, of Pompano Beach.

Moschella said it appears Joseph Lytell shot his sister before killing himself.

The Broward County medical examiner's office will determine the official causes and manners of death. A motive hasn't been determined.
