BSO deputies arrest serial burglary suspect

John Singer arrested 17 times in last 6 years

OAKLAND PARK, Fla. – Broward Sheriff's Office deputies have arrested a serial burglary suspect accused of stealing various weapons from homes in Broward and Palm Beach counties.

John Singer was arrested Sunday after someone recognized the stolen guns that he was trying to sell at the Pompano Beach Gun & Knife Show, BSO spokeswoman Gina Carter said.

Singer approached various attendees with pictures of vintage bayonets, Carter said. An attendee recognized the items as belonging to a friend and alerted a BSO deputy.

"The last thing we want is to have these stolen firearms on the streets of Broward County," Lighthouse Point police Lt. Jack Vaccaro said.

Carter said Singer is responsible for various car burglaries in Pompano Beach in the past few months.

Surveillance video from a July theft shows a man, identified by deputies as Carter, rummaging through an SUV for several minutes until he scared himself off after accidentally triggering the garage door opener. Carter eventually returned to the home and stole sporting goods, lawn maintenance items, a credit card and some cash, Carter said.

Deputies recovered several dozen stolen items, including guns, cameras, phones and other electronics. Carter said they also found stolen IDs and credit cards in his home.

Singer had been arrested 17 times in the last six years on similar charges.
