FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A Broward Sheriff's Office deputy was involved in a multi-car wreck while transporting an arrestee early Friday morning.
BSO spokeswoman Gina Carter said a man driving a Dodge Charger ran a red light and struck a cruiser driven by Deputy Steven Serphos, 28, at the intersection of Andrews Avenue and Northeast Second Street.
The driver of the Charger, identified as Bryan Espinosa, is accused of crashing into a Mazda 6 after striking the deputy.
Both the deputy and the inmate, identified as Yoed Rivera-Hernandez, 34, were taken to Broward Health Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Espinosa and three other people who were passengers in his car were also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Mazda 6, Bryce Powers, 27, and his passenger, Alex Solozabal, 27, were treated for minor injuries at the scene.
Serphos was released from the hospital later Friday morning.
