An informant told detectives several days before that a robbery would happen there on Thursday, Broward Sheriff Scott Israel said.

Undercover deputies waited at the office, and about 3 p.m., Thomas entered wearing a mask, then ignored orders before he was shot, police said. No one else was injured.

Three deputies -- Gerardo Lopez, 40; Carlos Gomez, 32; and, Jason Rotella, 40 -- were placed on administrative assignment following the shooting. Thomas had a lengthy criminal record, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.

Business owners in the shopping plaza returned Friday and recounted hearing the gunshots.
