BSO: Kevon J. Obas, 20 arrested in Champion Food Store shooting

Police search for 2nd suspect

BROWARD COUNTY, Texas – Kevon J. Obas, 20, was arrested Tuesday in connection with the May 16 shooting and robbery outside of the Champion Food Store in unincorporated Central Broward, but Broward Sheriff's detectives are still looking for another suspect.

A surveillance camera caught images of Obas and another suspect walking in front of the business toward two men who were off camera playing craps. The two victims ran away from the suspects as the suspects began shooting at them.

Damian Royer, 25, fell to the ground after being hit by one of the bullets. Moments later a black, two-door Pontiac G6 pulled up next to Royer. A man exited the car, searched through Royer's pockets, then got back in the car and drove away.

Royer was transported to Broward Health Medical Center in critical condition. Doctors said if he survives he is likely to be a quadriplegic.

The second suspect is described as a dark skin, black male, chubby, with long dreadlocks. He was last seen wearing an orange shirt and a knit hat.
