BSO makes 5 arrests in Tamarac over marijuana, guns, forged checks

Neighbors got tired of suspected drug dealer, strange guests

TAMARAC, Fla. – When they heard that police was around, they rushed to try to flush hundreds of dollars in marijuana down the toilet. It was painful. Five tried to run away from deputies but failed.

A Friday raid startled four men and a woman in their 20s and 30s.  After a two-month investigation, Broward Sheriff's Office deputies had the element of surprise. The SWAT team's fugitive squad moved fast. And detectives from the crime suppression team familiar with the scene followed.

Neighbors had complained about possible criminal activity at the apartment in the Palm Island Club complex, 5169 Island Club Dr., in Tamarac. There was a suspected drug dealer. And he was attracting some strange characters, residents said.

BSO confirmed the complaints and began a narcotics operation in December. During the raid, they found two pounds of marijuana inside the apartment.

Deputies seized two handguns, a shotgun and a bulletproof vest.

In a safe, there was a jar labeled "money pot." In total, deputies seized about $1,500 in cash at the apartment. There was also evidence of forged checks.

Detectives Alvin Pollock Jr. and Kami Floyd spent several weeks on surveillance to gather intelligence. They had enough evidence to get an arrest warrant for Sean-Paul Clive Davis, 26, the man who lived in the apartment.

The day of the raid there were four others with him: Safiya Maxwell, 27, of Plantation; Daniel Burnett, 30, also of Plantation; Jeremy Antonio Francis, 25, of Lauderhill; and Shawn Andre Clark, 28, of Sunrise.

Deputies said Davis faces charges of felony possession of cannabis with intent to sell, grand theft, possession of drug paraphernalia, passing forged checks, resisting arrest and obstruction and tampering with evidence. He was released from jail Monday on a $25,200 bond.

Maxwell, Burnett, Francis and Clark face charges of possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest. They were released from jail Saturday.

Deputies were asking anyone with information to call 954-720-2231 or Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477. A reward of up to $3,000 is available for information leading to any new arrests in the case.
