Kenneth Lent dies while being taken into custody

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – Broward Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a 911 call early Monday morning of a man acting bizarrely at a Pompano Beach gas station.

The caller told dispatchers that the man was stabbing the front window of the BP Gas Station with a knife.

According to BSO, when deputies arrived, they saw 41-year-old Kenneth Lent walking to his truck. When Lent entered the truck, deputies ordered him to exit.

Deputies say that before Lent got out of the truck, they saw him smoke something out of a glass pipe. He also appeared to put something in his mouth and then drank from a Gatorade bottle.

Deputies ordered Lent to exit the truck and lie on the ground, where they handcuffed him.

On the way to the patrol car, Lent reportedly had trouble walking. Deputies returned him to the ground, began CPR and called Pompano Beach Fire Rescue.

Lent was then transported to Broward Health North, where he was pronounced dead. \

Detectives say they found several knives and a small amount of cocaine in Lent's truck.

The Broward County Medical Examiner's Office has not yet determined the cause of death.
