BSO: Rape suspect linked to other crimes

Shonney Booth charged with sexual battery, strong-arm robbery

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Broward Sheriff's Office says it has linked a man charged with sexual battery and robbery to at least three crimes.

Shonney Booth, 29, was arrested Feb. 9. He is charged with strong-arm robbery and sexual assult.

Booth paid a woman to have sex with him on Feb. 5 in Dania Beach, according to BSO. When they finished. he said he wanted his money back.

Police say he threatened her, put her in a headlock, and tried running her over with his car.

On Feb. 7 on Federal Highway in Dania Beach, police say Booth pulled up next to a woman and grabbed her purse. He said he would return it if she got into his car.

She did and he sexually battered her, police say. DNA retrieved from evidence at the scene was later linked to Booth.

On Feb. 9 at 3095 N. Course Drive in Pompano Beach, police say a woman claimed Booth offered her a ride, knocked her unconscious, and raped her.

Booth told police the woman was a prostitute he had been with before, police say. The woman had no history of prostitution.

Booth later told detectives he routinely picked up women he believed were prostitutes, police say.
