Burmese python found at Miami-Dade County construction site

Construction workers startled by snake found under plastic tarp

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A Burmese python was found at a construction site Tuesday in Miami-Dade County.

The 10-foot, 60-pound snake was discovered at a construction site near the Palmetto Expressway and Northwest 72nd Avenue when crews lifted a plastic tarp off some new pipes.

Construction workers called Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, whose anti-venom unit removed the snake.

"It's a big, healthy animal," Capt. Jeffrey Fobb said.

Nobody was bitten.

Fobb said he believes the snake was someone's pet released into the wild.
