Business owners outraged over boy's murder

Aaron Vu shot, killed in parent's nail salon

MIAMI ā€“ Business owners in a northwest Miami-Dade County neighborhood expressed their outrage over the shooting death of a 10-year-old boy during a robbery late Friday.

Aaron Vu was shot at his parent's nail salon, Nail Hong-Kong, at 14832 Northwest 7th Avenue. His great-aunt and uncle pleaded for information in the case on Monday.

The incident left business owners asking themselves whether it was safe to stay open.

"You have to have protection," said Celibe Jules. "Even if the alarm doesn't do anything for you, at least you have something in case something happens and you have the image of the person."

Jules opened her beauty shop next to the nail salon two months ago. She was drawn to the area because of the available space, but her store will soon sit empty like others at the strip mall.

"It's terrible," she said. "You will never think something like that could happen to a family."

Across Northwest 148th Street and 7th Avenue, some business owners buzz their customers inside. At VIP Flooring, the tight security has been in place for years.

"It makes you think but even in this area or any other area you have to be careful," said Luis Prieto, owner of VIP Flooring.

Police are offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the nail salon shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
