Canes to implement NFL bag policy at games

Policy restricts size and types of bag allowed at Sun Life Stadium

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Miami Hurricanes may not play in the NFL, but fans will feel like their attending a NFL game when cheering on the Canes at home this season.

University of Miami officials announced Wednesday that they will implement the NFL's bag policy for all home games at Sun Life Stadium this season.

The policy, which will restrict fans on the size and type of bags they bring into the stadium, was adopted by the NFL to help expedite entry into games.

Beginning with Miami's home opener on August 30 vs. Florida Atlantic, only clear, see-through bags or totes, along with small clutches, will be allowed inside Sun Life Stadium. No purses will allowed entry through the stadium gates.

The new bag policy has angered many fans, mainly women, who say the new rules are an invasion of privacy. Others have protested that the rule was designed so as to not allow outside food and drinks inside the stadium.

For those who show up to Hurricanes games without a clear bag; plastic bags will be provided at the gates.

And for those who'd like something a little sturdier, the NFL has graciously produced their own clear bags available for purchase on the league's website.
