Thief steals car that had 2 children inside in Pompano Beach, deputies say

BSO: Man took young children out of car, placed them in bed of pickup

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – Two young children are safe after a man stole the car they were inside of in Pompano Beach, deputies said.

The car was stolen from a convenience store parking lot at 801 S. Dixie Highway W.

Deputies said the driver had left her keys and two kids in the car.

The thief, identified as 35-year-old Henri Du-Preez, took the 1-year-old and 3-year-old children out of the car and placed them both, still in their car seats, in the bed of a pickup truck at 1700 N.E. 62nd St. in Fort Lauderdale, deputies said.

BSO said the owner of the truck discovered the kids in the truck bed.

Du-Preez was taken into custody and the car was recovered at 600 N.W. 4 Ave. in Pompano Beach, according to BSO.

The children were not hurt in the incident.
