Woman pulled from water after car crashes into Margate canal

Water up to base of window when Fire Rescue arrives

MARGATE, Fla. – A woman was pulled from a Margate canal after she crashed her car Thursday afternoon.

The crash was reported shortly before 6 p.m. along Southwest Fourth Street.

Sky 10 was above the scene as rescue divers were still in the water.

A silver BMW that had its windshield wipers running and its trunk open was almost completely submerged.

Margate Fire Rescue Chief Rick Donahue said the water was up to the base of the windows when firefighters arrived.

He said two divers and a rescue swimmer were able to pull the woman from the vehicle.

The woman was treated at the scene before being taken to a nearby hospital.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
