Man falls asleep in car, crashes into neighbor's home

71-year-old taken to hospital

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A man was taken to the hospital after crashing his car into the garage of a home at 681 SW 29th Ave. in Fort Lauderdale on Tuesday night.

Paul Davis, the owner of the home, said it sounded like an earthquake when his 71-year-old neighbor drove straight out of his carport and crashed into Davis' porch, where his 9-year-old daughter and her friends had just been playing.

Davis said an exterior wall of his neighbor's carport is now on his front lawn and blocks of concrete lay scattered under what remains of his porch.

The 71-year-old man apparently fell asleep in his car. When he woke up, he was startled and stepped on the gas pedal, causing him to crash into one home, go through a fence and then crash into another home.

Davis said he is just thankful his family is OK.

The condition of the neighbor is unknown at this time.
