Detectives say Moira Sullivan pawned jewelry that she passed off as her own

Moira Sullivan is accused of stealing pricey jewelry from the elderly and pawning them as her own.

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – A Lauderhill woman who was supposed to be caring for two women in their late 90s was instead pocketing their jewelry, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.

Moira Sullivan, 46, was arrested Wednesday on multiple charges, including stealing from someone 65 or older, dealing in stolen property and fraud.

BSO detectives said Sullivan earned her living working for elderly people, including two Pompano Beach women, ages 96 and 97.

After stealing jewelry from the 97-year-old woman, Sullivan pretended to be the owner of the items, pawning a broach in February, a necklace in March and another broach in April, detectives said.

Sullivan did the same thing three times in June, stealing and pawning a bracelet, watch and necklace from the 96-year-old woman, detectives said.

The jewelry was worth tens of thousands of dollars.

Detectives believe there might be other victims. Anyone with information is asked to call the BSO or Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
