MIAMI – A special ceremony was held Tuesday for a K-9 who is retiring after working with agents at Miami International Airport for the last four years.
Skye was given a special sendoff in front of all of his beagle buddies at his retirement party.
Skye's "mother," Allison Spicher-Hernandez, said his plans for retirement include a lot of relaxing.
"Watching TV, playing with our dog at home, chasing tennis balls, you know, the usual," said Spicher-Hernandez.
"His life is not as exciting," said Skye's "father," Officer Roberto Hernandez. "He doesn't run around so much. He doesn't get as many treats."
Skye has sniffed 2-million pieces of luggage, and nothing seems to slow down the working dog, except forced retirement.
At 9 years old, this senior citizen has "aged" out of the system, after giving MIA five of his best doggie years.
Like any good party, Skye got a pup-cake and a slideshow tribute to his career.
"He's a hound, you know, he likes to hunt. It's like a guy and if you were a hunter your whole life, once your joints start to hurt and you stop doing it, you still want that thrill."
Skye will retire at home with his big sister, an American bulldog, and his four cat brother and sisters. It will be a full house at home while Officer Hernandez begins work with his new dog, Jaxon.
