Charges reduced against doctor accused of beating girlfriend

Orlando Llorente faces two misdemeanor battery charges

MIAMI – The charges against a South Florida plastic surgeon accused of beating his girlfriend over a Facebook post have been reduced to misdemeanors by the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office.

Miami police arrested Dr. Orlando Llorente in May and charged him with eight counts that included attempted murder, kidnapping, battery, and robbery.

On Friday, those charges were dropped and only two misdemeanor battery charges remained.

State attorney spokesman Ed Griffith would not comment on why the charges were dropped because the case remains open.

Police reported in May that Llorente dragged his girlfriend into the bathroom, forced her head in the toilet, then poured water over her head in the bathtub -- an act similar to water-boarding.

The incident allegedly took place on April 21 inside Llorente's apartment at the Brickell First residence in Miami.
