Toddler falls 4 stories from apartment balcony in Hialeah

2-year-old airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital

HIALEAH, Fla. – A 2-year-old boy was airlifted to the hospital Friday after falling from a fourth-floor apartment balcony in Hialeah.

Sky 10 was over the scene as the child arrived at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami just after 11 a.m. Friday.

The accident happened at the Sunhouse Apartments off West 16th Avenue and 68th Street.

Police said the boy's grandmother, mother and aunt were there at the time.

The boy's grandmother told police she stepped out onto the balcony for a brief moment when he somehow fell.

"There are no signs of negligence here," Hialeah police spokesman Carl Zogby said. "It appears to be an accident."

Hialeah Fire Department spokesman Capt. Cesar Espinosa said the toddler suffered some facial injuries, but he was conscious and alert when paramedics arrived.

The boy was expected to recover.

"It'll end well today, but it could've been a tragedy and it happens to the best people," Zogby said.
