Chinese zoo busted when 'lion' barks

Zoo's lion was actually a Tibetan mastiff

A Tibetan Mastiff dog is shown with a sign that reads "feizhou shi" (African lion), at a zoo in the Henen province of China.

CHINA ā€“ King of the Jungle?

Not at this zoo.

Patrons at a zoo in the Henan Province of China received quite a jolt when the lion they were looking at suddenly barked.

The so-called lion ended up being long-haired Tibetan mastiff. Cute, no doubt. But again, not the "King of the Jungle."

According to ABC.com, zoo officials said the real lion was breeding and the zookeeper's dog was left in the pen for "safety reasons," but upon further inspection it was found that the zoo placed another dog in a wolf's pen and had a fox labeled as a panther.
