Christmas crooks climb up garbage chute to burglarize Pompano Beach City Hall

Men steal about $2,100 worth of computer equipment

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – Broward Sheriff's Office deputies are trying to find a pair of Christmas burglars who climbed up a garbage chute to steal computer equipment from Pompano Beach City Hall.

Detectives said surveillance video shows two men carting out the equipment shortly before 8 p.m. on Christmas Day, just before midnight and just after 2 a.m. Dec. 26.

A city employee arrived to work and noticed the doors to the building were unlocked. Someone had broken into the building department office on the third floor and stolen seven 32-inch Samsung computer monitors.

Deputies determined the men got inside through a garbage chute that had been place near a window during ongoing construction. The window had been boarded up with plywood, but the men kicked it.

The stolen equipment was worth about $2,100.

Anyone who recognizes the thieves is asked to contact the BSO at 954-786-4553 or call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
