Christmas night shooting in Overtown leaves 1 dead, 2 injured

Shooting occurs outside Express Food Center

MIAMI – One man is dead and two others injured after a Christmas night shooting in Miami's Overtown neighborhood.

Miami police said a group was outside the Express Food Center, 467 NW Eighth St., when the shooting occurred.

The store's owner said bullets started flying outside, and one of the men who was struck ran into his store before he died. He said his clerk called him in tears.

"This was like a brother to me," owner Fahmi Abugazleh told Local 10 News. "He's my best customer."

Abugazleh said the man who died, known as "Baby Boo," lived in the area and is good friends with employees at the store. He was identified by police Friday as James Brown, 35.

Police said the second man who was shot was driven to the hospital by someone at the scene, while the third victim was taken by ambulance to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center. They were identified Friday as Charlie Williams, 38, and Ralf Martin, 21. Both are expected to survive.

Officers were reviewing surveillance video to assist with their investigation.

A motive was not immediately known, and police have no suspects at this time.
