City of Hallandale Beach to offer sandbags to residents

City offers free sandbags as more rain anticipated Saturday

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – The City of Hallandale Beach sent out an emergency weather message to residents Friday about plans to offer sandbags as more rain is anticipated.

The message also updated residents about the standing water situation, urged citizens to stay in their homes and to avoid driving.

The city said several roads have extensive standing water.

"There is only one passable lane on East Hallandale Beach Boulevard from Federal Highway to Diplomat Parkway," the message said. "Also, there is extensive standing water on Diplomat Parkway from north of East Hallandale Beach Boulevard to south of Atlantic Shores Boulevard."

Numerous side streets in the Northeast Quadrant also had extensive water, according to the message.

With a 40 percent change of rain for the Hallandale Beach area on Saturday, the city said it will be offering free sandbags to residents.

The city will offer the sandbags from 8:30 a.m. until 12 p.m. Saturday at the Public Works Compound, located at 630 Northwest 2nd Street. The city said you must show proof of residency to pick up the sandbags.
