MIAMI - The U.S. Coast Guard has rescued a sick passenger from a cruise ship.

Coast Guard officials learned Sunday morning that a 26-year-old man aboard the cruise ship Carnival Fascination was suffering symptoms of appendicitis about 32 nautical miles east of Lake Worth.

The passenger was taken by boat to a marina, where local emergency medical workers were waiting.

The man was in stable condition at the time of the transfer.
