MIAMI - U.S. Coast Guard rescue crews were searching for survivors Saturday night after a boat capsized in the waters off of the Dominican Republic.
The boat capsized in Samana Bay, off the northeast coast of the Dominican Republic.
The call for help came in about 3 p.m. Saturday. The Dominican Republic Navy authorities made a request for assistance with the search.
An HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircraft from Air Station Miami that was on deployment to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, was sent to help. The Coast Guard cutter Sapelo was also diverted to the area, along with a MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Air Station Borinquen.
The size of the capsized boat and the number of missing passengers were not immediately available.
