Broward Sheriff's Office deputies said Michelo Pubien, 47, somehow lost control of his 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan while he was driving west on Copans Road approaching the intersection at Powerline Road.

Detectives said the Dodge struck the curb along the north side of the roadway, went onto the sidewalk, sideswiped a utility pole and then traveled back onto the roadway, colliding with the semi-truck.

Detectives said the semi was stopped for traffic in the center lane. The minivan flipped over and came to a final rest in the far right lane of West Copans Road.

Pubien was taken by paramedics to Broward Health North, where he was pronounced dead shortly before 8:30 p.m.
