Commissioner Jose Diaz passes out backpacks to students at summer camp

Hundreds of children receive free backpacks containing supplies for upcoming school year

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – MIami-Dade County Commissioner Jose "Pepe" Diaz helped students get ready for the upcoming school year by passing out backpacks at the North Trail and Town of Medley summer camps.

Hundreds of children received backpacks Wednesday containing binders, three spiral notebooks, three composition notebooks, three packs of paper, a pencil pouch, markers, crayons, highlighter, White Out, scissors, pens, pencils, a ruler and glue.

"I'm happy I was able to do my part to get these kids ready for a new school year of learning,"  Diaz said. "And this helps parents with one less thing they have to do, to get their children school ready."

The backpacks and school supplies were donated by Florida East Coast Industries.
