Constuction worker falls 1 story at Frost Science Museum

Worker falls from 5th floor

MIAMI – A construction worker was injured Monday after he fell one story down while working on the Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum of Science building in downtown Miami.

Miami Department of Fire-Rescue officials said the worker fell from the fifth floor.

It's still unclear how he fell, but authorities said he was wearing a harness at the time.

Miami Department of Fire-Rescue Sgt. Ignatius Carroll told Local 10 News that the worker suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

"Crews were able to stabilize him, and they dispatched a ladder truck as well as a technical rescue team to come and perform this high-elevated rescue, because the only way we were able to bring him down to the paramedics was by the way of a ladder truck," Carroll said.

Authorities said the worker was alert and responsive and was able to tell paramedics where he was injured.

He was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center and is expected to make a full recovery.
