LAUDERHILL, Fla. - A couple is being charged with identity theft after getting their hands on a box full of personal information on dozens of Home Depot employees.
Husband and wife Melissa Clark and Samuel St. Fleur discovered several binders of outdated job application packets from Home Depot, which were lawfully discarded.
The couple contacted Home Depot, demanding $10,000 to return the documents safely.
A sting was conducted by detectives, and they were able to secure the evidence and arrest the couple for extortion and 54 counts of unlawful possession of personal identification of another person.
The couple gave a full confession to their crime.
Investigators said no personal information was used or compromised and all victims were notified their information was recovered.
