Credit card thief goes on shopping spree

Incident caught on surveillance video at Coral Springs Kohl's

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – A credit card thief went on a shopping spree at the Kohl's in Coral Springs and police say they don't think it's the first time she's done it.

Surveillance video shows the woman, looking like any other shopper, calmly perusing racks of clothing.

"She's gotten away with it a couple of times so now she's probably comfortable doing it," said Joe McHugh of Coral Springs Police.

That's why the security camera follows her every move. She has been to the store before, not to buy, but to steal, police say.

"The lost prevention guy was very keen that it was the same individual, so he zoomed in on her," McHugh said.

Investigators say the woman opens a line of credit online, using someone else's information, and then goes on a shopping spree.

"Technically, what she's doing is committing grand theft because she opened the line of credit fraudulently," McHugh said.

In this latest instance, the store called Coral Springs police and a clerk tried stalling for as long as possible, hoping officers arrived in time.

Unfortunately, it wasn't long enough. She took her purchases and left.

No one has been able to identify her. But she did leave on critical clue behind -- a crystal clear image of her face.

If you recognize that face and you'd like to make an easy $1,000, call Broward Crimestoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
