BSO says cargo container struck 52-year-old man

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Crews helped rescue a worker on a cargo ship who was injured after a cargo container struck him at Port Everglades.

Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue Port Everglades units and the BSFR Technical Rescue Team crews helped the 52-year-old man at 1:19 p.m. Sunday.

The Lauderdale Lakes man was working on an upper deck of the ship when he was injured. Deputies said he sustained a leg injury and had to be stabilized and immobilized on the upper deck.

The man was then removed by the TRT crews, using a tower ladder to conduct a high-angle rescue. It took just under an hour from the time of the call to help the man, said deputies.
