FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -

Crews helped rescue a worker on a cargo ship who was injured after a cargo container struck him at Port Everglades.

Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue Port Everglades units and the BSFR Technical Rescue Team crews helped the 52-year-old man at 1:19 p.m. Sunday.

The Lauderdale Lakes man was working on an upper deck of the ship when he was injured. Deputies said he sustained a leg injury and had to be stabilized and immobilized on the upper deck.

The man was then removed by the TRT crews, using a tower ladder to conduct a high-angle rescue. It took just under an hour from the time of the call to help the man, said deputies.

According to BSO, the worker, who has not yet been identified, was transported to Broward Health Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
