Crews work to remove boat from jetty

4 men rescued from boat Friday night after it began taking on water

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Crews are working to remove a boat that ended up onshore in Fort Lauderdale. It washed up after being rung into a jetty.

Friday night the boat was taking on water. One of the men onboard was able to jump ship and swim back to shore. The Coast Guard rescued the three others.

It's now been three days since that vessel came ashore on the Fort Lauderdale beach and getting it back out to out to sea is no easy task.

Crews attempted to get the 63-foot crab vessel back to sea Sunday but after a few hours, tug boats with U.S.A. Tow said they had to give up and would try again Monday.

Crews again are trying to use a backhoe to create like a bathtub-like scenario. They are trying to carve out sand so when high tide kicks in, they're hoping to have enough water to push it back out to sea.

There are some concerns about holes onboard the boat, which is what caused the problem in the first place.

Dive teams are onboard the vessel; they will have to essentially plug the holes. They said they're hoping when it does get back out into the ocean it won't take on water again.
