DORAL, Fla. – A $25,000 reward is now being offered for information leading to an arrest in the fatal shooting of an 8-year-old girl last year.
Miami-Dade police announced at a news conference Monday that the reward has been increased from $23,000 to $25,000.
Jada Page was fatally wounded in a drive-by shooting last August outside her grandmother's home on Northwest 25th Avenue.
Jada's father, who was the intended target, was also wounded, but survived.
Her family members gathered at Miami-Dade police headquarters Monday on the anniversary of the shooting as they pleaded with the public for information that will help them find her killer.
"We're just begging, begging the community, any information, anything that you can provide for my department to help us close this case will be greatly (helpful)," Jada's great-aunt, Brendolyn Spence, said.
Spence is an officer with the Miami-Dade Police Department.
"Just put yourself in our shoes," grandmother Lisa Brown said. "This is a pain that I don't hope on anyone."
No arrests have been made. Detectives said they've made progress in the investigation, but they've had several hurdles, including Jada's father's lack of cooperation.
"If he was cooperating, he would have been here present with, you know, these ladies here beside me," Detective Richard Rafael said.
Rafael said he believes Jada's father may have valuable information about who killed his daughter.
"He's got to live with that," Rafael said. "But when the time comes, like I said, we're going to solve this case with or without him."
