SCOTTSBORO, Ala. – Mekenzie Leigh Guffey is pregnant. Police officers in Alabama arrested the teenage mom who is due in October, after they learned that she had been having sex with a 14-year-old boy.
Guffey, 19, is asking a Jackson County judge to treat her as a youthful offender.

Police officers got involved after Guffey looked for help through a Medicaid program. The social worker she spoke to was required by law to report the relationship to authorities.
Guffey's grandmother Peggy Thompson told reporters in tears that what Guffey needed was help.
Thompson said she took her in when she was 11, after she had spent her childhood with her drug addicted parents. She added that the teen Guffey fell in love with looked a lot older than 14.
Guffey was arrested in March. She is facing second-degree rape, sexual abuse, enticing a child for immoral purposes, traveling to meet a child for illegal sex acts and obscenity. If the judge grants her request to be treated as a youthful offender, she will face a limited prison sentence if convicted.
