HOLLYWOOD, Fla. - Two 18-year-old men are facing multiple charges after they led Hollywood police on a chase that ended in a multiple-vehicle crash in Sunrise, authorities said.
According to an arrest report, an undercover officer was patrolling the area of 2500 Sheridan St. Wednesday afternoon in reference to several recent shootings and a report of a shooting in the area in the previous hour when the officer saw two men in a white Honda Accord pull up to a man in an alley and conduct a hand-to-hand transaction.
The officer followed the vehicle and activated his emergency lights when the driver, identified as Christian Martin, pulled into a Marathon gas station. The driver entered the car wash and then sped out of the gas station, the report said.
Police said Martin led officers on a chase and intentionally struck two marked police vehicles during the pursuit.
The chase ended at Northwest 19th Street and Sunset Strip in Sunrise, where Martin drove through a stop sign and crashed into three other vehicles, police said.
No officers were injured, but several people in the other vehicles were taken to a hospital, authorities said.
Martin and his passenger, Desmond Shannon-Sharrod Bullock, were taken to Broward Health Medical Center for medical clearance.
Martin faces charges of aggravated battery, possession of cocaine, resisting an officer, operating a vehicle without a license, running a stop sign and fleeing police.
Bullock, who has a lengthy arrest history and open cases in juvenile court, faces charges of possession of marijuana and possession of cocaine. He appeared in court Thursday, where he was granted a $1,000 bond. The judge ordered that he take life skills classes if he fails to post bail.
