2 Miami men arrested after road rage incident in the Keys

Passenger pointed BB gun at victims, deputies say

Manuel Plana Santos (left) and Adrian Dorta Rodriguez, both 20, face charges after they were involved in a road rage incident in the Florida Keys, authorities said.

MONROE COUNTY, Fla. – Two Miami men were arrested Saturday after pointing a BB gun at another car during a road rage incident in the Keys, Monroe County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Becky Herrin said.

The incident was reported about 2:30 a.m. Saturday at the 56 mile marker of U.S. Route 1.

The victims told deputies that they were driving south on the highway when another car came up behind them flashing its lights.

Herrin said the driver passed them, pulled over to the side of the road and got behind the car again, flashing his lights.

The victims told deputies that they pulled over to let the car pass, and someone pointed what looked like a handgun at them through the window.

Deputies pulled the suspects' vehicle over at the 53 mile marker and found two men in the front and two 17-year-old girls in the back seat.

Herrin said deputies found two BB guns that resemble handguns in the vehicle, which the men admitted were theirs.

Herrin said the driver, Manuel Planas Santos and Adrian Dorta Rodriguez, both 20, said the other car had been following them closely with high-beam headlights on.

Rodriguez admitted to pointing the gun out the window to warn the other driver to turn the high-beams off, Herrin said.

He was arrested on charges of aggravated assault and improper display of a firearm.

Santos was also arrested on charges of driving with a suspended license and being an accessory to aggravated assault.
