HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – A person is in custody after police swarmed a neighborhood in Hollywood Friday afternoon.
However, no arrests have been made at the scene as authorities were checking on a person after they received reports that shots were fired in the area.
Two schools were placed on lockdown due to the police activity, but those lockdowns have since been lifted.
Sky 10 was above Funston Street and 29th Avenue at 3:30 p.m. as police vehicles and a SWAT truck lined the neighborhood.
Broward County Public School officials said McNicol Middle School and Colbert Elementary School were placed on lockdown as a precaution.
Police said the incident appeared to be a miscommunication and that they spoke with a man who lives inside the apartment unit where the shooting was reported.
"There was only one shot that got fired," a man named Ender, who lives in the area, said. "This guy is crazy anyways. He steals bicycles. He steals ACs, things like that. He's not a serious guy. People are just scared of him because he has tattoos on his face."
