2 teenage thieves arrested after targeting off-duty officer's car, police say

Several police vehicles damaged during pursuit

COCONUT CREEK, Fla. – Two 16-year-old boys were arrested early Monday after an off-duty police officer saw them peering into her marked patrol car in her driveway in Coconut Creek, authorities said.

Police said the boys fled the area in a gray 2004 Cadillac that was reported stolen from West Palm Beach after they saw the officer.

Police tried to stop the vehicle on Winston Park Boulevard, but the teens refused to stop, authorities said.

The driver eventually lost control, spun out and struck two police cars.

Police said the driver tried to strike another marked patrol car before he got onto the Sawgrass Expressway, where he eventually stopped.

Police said the teens tried to run away, but were apprehended a short time later.

Several stolen purses and other items were found in the vehicle, police said.

Both teens were arrested on charges of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, grand theft, resisting an officer without violence and loitering and prowling.
