3 arrested after trying to use fraudulent credit cards in Key Largo, deputies say

Group tried to buy 2 GoPro cameras at Diver's Direct

KEY LARGO, Fla. – A woman and two men were arrested Saturday in Key Largo after deputies said they attempted to use a fraudulent credit card to purchase two GoPro cameras at Diver's Direct at mile marker 99.6.

The three suspects in custody are Brian Olivera, 25, of Hialeah, Fernando Romero, 25, of Miami, and Tahimi Perez, 26, of Miami.

Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived at the store at about 4 p.m. after employees called to report two men attempting to use a fraudulent credit card to purchase merchandise valued at $898.

The employee had realized there was something wrong with the card when it looked blurry.

When an assistant manager told the men the card was no good, they left the store in a white BMW with a temporary tag, deputies said.

Deputy Ben Elmore was able to spot the vehicle at mile marker 103 and pulled the driver over.

There were two men and a woman inside the car, which had a strong smell of marijuana coming from it, Elmore said.

The trio had suspended driver's licenses, and marijuana was found in numerous locations inside the car, along with other drug paraphernalia, deputies said.

In addition, deputies found multiple credit cards in the car.

The cards were all crudely made, had blurry type on them and were obviously fake, deputies said.

Olivera was arrested on charges of 10 counts of fraudulent use or possession of another person's identification, possession of counterfeit credit cards, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and driving with his license suspended.

Romero arrested on charges of 10 counts of grand theft, 10 counts fraudulent use or possession of another person's identification, possession of counterfeit credit cards and fraudulent use of credit cards.
