Big Pine Key couple accused of stalking former tenant, man's girlfriend

Former tenant says couple harassed him for more money

BIG PINE KEY, Fla. – A couple from Big Pine Key were arrested Wednesday for stalking their former tenants, authorities said.

Monroe County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Becky Herrin said one of the victims called authorities July 26, saying that he used to rent a room from the suspects, Enrique Valdes Jr., 42, and Omitsu Cervantes, 35.

The man said the couple began harassing him after he moved out at the beginning of June.

He said they began asking him for more money, which he initially gave them.

Herrin said the man claimed that the couple kept demanding money from him and sending him and his girlfriend threatening text and voice messages.

The victim said Valdes also threw something heavy at his car window when he was driving on Rockland Key.

The victims gave copies of the messages to the deputy who was assigned to investigate the claims, Herrin said.

Arrest warrants were issued for the couple, who were booked into jail Wednesday on stalking charges.
