Bouncer, bartender injured in fight at Miami Beach bar

Another bartender captures fight on cellphone video

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A bouncer and a bartender were injured over the weekend during a fight at a bar in Miami Beach, authorities said.

The brawl, which was recorded on cellphone video by another bartender, was reported about 11:30 p.m. Saturday at The Playwright Irish Pub at 1265 Washington Ave.

According to an incident report, a man ran past a bouncer inside the bar and said, "Protect me please. Those guys are going to jump me."

Police said two men, armed with a large PVC pipe and bottle, ran into the bar and the bouncer, Juan Flores, 39, attempted to stop them from getting to the victim.

Flores suffered a deep cut to his right arm and hand, and smaller cuts to his left hand from the broken bottle, police said.

A bartender, identified as Jason Hernandez, 33, tried to help the bouncer and was struck in the face with the pipe. Police said he had a large cut on his nose, which was possibly broken.

Cellphone video shows the culprits picking up chairs to use as weapons.

Authorities said the attackers and the original victim fled the scene before police arrived.

Both bar employees who were injured were treated at the scene by paramedics and drove themselves to the hospital.

Anyone with information about the fight is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
