Braddock High School students accused of sexually assaulting incapacitated woman

Incident reported May 1 at Bal Harbour hotel

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A group of G. Holmes Braddock Senior High School students were arrested this week on allegations that they sexually assaulted an incapacitated 21-year-old woman, Miami-Dade police said.

According to an arrest report, Adrian Machin, Luis Rosello, Julio Fernandez, all 19, and Adan Valdes, 17, were involved in the incident, which was reported May 1 at the Bal Harbour Quarzo luxury boutique hotel.

Machin, Rosello and Valdes are current students at G. Holmes Braddock Senior High School in Miami-Dade County, according to their arrest reports.

Machin was arrested Tuesday night and the other three friends were arrested on Wednesday.

Detectives said Valdes was the first person to sexually assault the woman with the handle of an umbrella while Machin and Fernandez recorded the attack with their cellphones. Police said Rosello was also in the room and watched the woman being assaulted.

According to the report, Rosello and Machin then sexually assaulted the woman with a marijuana cigarette.

It's unclear how the woman ended up in the hotel room alone with the four suspects, but classmates talked about the allegations on social media, saying it happened after the Braddock senior high prom.

Numerous posts on Twitter claim that a video surfaced after the incident showing the woman passed out in the room. The video was allegedly passed around to numerous students at Braddock High School.

Detectives said Machin and Fernandez confessed to their roles in the incident. Fernandez told detectives that he had no remorse for the victim, the report said.

Local 10 News reporter Andrew Perez spoke to Fernandez's mother, who claimed that the suspects aren't "real criminals."

"Go look for real criminals, the ones that are killing people every day and can't be found," she said. "These are a couple of kids that violated her. She was drunk."

The suspects each face charges of sexual battery on a physically incapacitated person and sexual battery by multiple perpetrators.

Machin appeared in court Wednesday, where he was ordered to be held in jail without bond. The other three will still have to face a judge.
