Couple shot in southwest Miami-Dade while inside car

Police searching for 2 men involved in shooting

MIAMI-DADE, Fla. – A couple is recovering after being shot in southwest Miami-Dade early Friday morning.

Police said the two were sitting in the car along southwest 120th Street and 100th Avenue about 1:30 a.m. when they were approached by two men in black, one of whom was armed.

Police said the men tapped on the glass and started shooting.

"I just told him to reverse as fast as he can," Priscilla Macia, 21, said.

The driver, Christian Martinez, 22, was hit in the shoulder and upper chest area, while his girlfriend was hit in the left leg.

Moments later, the couple pulled back into Macia's driveway.

"(While) on the phone with the dispatcher, I was taking off my heels, thinking I'm going to have to run for my life," Macia said.

Macia's father, a former Army paramedic, said he grabbed his gun after hearing his daughter screaming and ran out of the house.

He then applied pressure to Martinez's wound until authorities arrived.

"He is an outstanding kid -- excellent family, excellent background. I think they were in the wrong place at the wrong time," Mike Macias said.

Both gunmen ran off from the scene and haven’t been caught. Both victims were taken to Jackson South Community Hospital in stable condition.

They have both been released from the hospital, and Macia is using crutches to get around with the bullet still lodged in her leg bone.

"Today's been a lucky night. I feel blessed," Mike Macia said. "My daughter and her boyfriend are here."

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
