Driver fatally shot on I-95 in Boynton Beach

Bullets also strike BMW involved in crash on I-95 near Lantana Road

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. – A driver who was found shot Wednesday on Interstate 95 in Boynton Beach has died.

Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Teri Barbera said Boynton Beach police were called to a crash at the Gateway Boulevard exit ramp to I-95 shortly before 11:30 a.m. When police arrived, they found the wounded driver in the white Chevrolet SUV.

The driver was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A view from Sky 10 showed a bullet hole in the front driver's side window and in the front windshield of the SUV. There was also blood in the passenger's seat.

Bullet holes could also be seen in a black BMW on the side of the highway.

Barbera said a crash on I-95 north of Lantana Road was somehow related to the Boynton Beach incident.

Detectives are seeking the public's help in finding the shooter's vehicle. Witnesses described seeing a passenger in a gray SUV open fire on I-95.

Anyone who may have been driving on I-95 near Gateway Boulevard between 11:20 a.m. and 11:40 a.m. is asked to call detectives at 561-688-4054 or Crime Stoppers at 800-458-TIPS.
