Driver with child passenger crashes into tree after hit-and-run, police chase

2 police vehicles hit in crash

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A man who had a child in his SUV led police on a chase Tuesday night in southwest Miami-Dade that ended when the SUV crashed and caught fire, authorities said.

Homestead police said officers tried to pull over the driver after the SUV struck another vehicle and fled the scene, which led to a chase.

After crashing into two police vehicles, the SUV struck a tree near Southwest 147th Avenue and Southwest 288th Street, police said. The SUV then caught on fire.

The driver was taken to Homestead Hospital. He is expected to be OK.

The child was not injured. 

The driver's identity was not immediately released. It's unclear what charges he will be facing.
