Family pleads for help finding driver who injured man in hit-and-run

Andrew Fordham, 26, loses teeth, suffers dislocated jaw, bruising

CUTLER BAY, Fla. – A South Florida family is pleading with the public for help in finding the driver who injured a man Tuesday in a hit-and-run crash.

Andrew Fordham, 26, has called a hospital room home for the past couple of days as he recovers from his injuries.

His mother and girlfriend have been at his bedside since Tuesday morning when police said a driver hit Fordham as he crossed U.S. Route 1 and Caribbean Boulevard in Cutler Bay.

"You could have stopped. You could have stopped," Fordham said through tears. "He left. He knew he hit me, because he stopped right away and then just peeled off."

Fordham suffered a dislocated jaw, lost several teeth and has bruising all over his body.

"They don't know if these two fingers are broken. My neck feels like cement. My back is killing me. I can't stand up straight and I shake," Fordham said.

"I try so hard not to cry, but it’s your child," Fordham's mother, Esther Moore, said. "Even though he's an adult, he's still my baby, and when I saw him it just broke my heart, because he could have been dead. It could have been worse."

The aspiring rapper and father-to-be was walking to a friend's house when he saw what was about to happen.

"I looked up and the dude was running the red light and he hit me. He just sped up and hit me," Fordham said.

Fordham's mother is hoping peace of mind will come when the driver comes forward or is caught by police.

Investigators are hoping surveillance cameras at the intersection will give them a description of the car or its license plate.

"Who hits somebody and keeps going? He left him like roadkill and it’s not fair to him," Moore said.

Anyone with information about the hit-and-run is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
